A recreational hub created from historic Crown City Ranch land

Almansor Park is located at 800 South Almansor Street in Alhambra. The park features a lake that supports fish, turtles, ducks, and geese; a jogging trail; a gazebo; and a gymnasium. The park is managed by the City of Alhambra's Parks and Recreation Department (111 South First Street), with a park office reachable at (626) 570-5052. The City asks visitors not to fish in the lake or disturb or remove wildlife. The park serves as both a natural habitat and recreational destination for residents throughout the year.

From purchased ranchland to public park

The land was originally known as Memorial Park, a 22-acre property that had been part of the Pasadena-owned Crown City Ranch. The City of Alhambra purchased the land in 1947 for $22,000. Almansor Park is Alhambra's largest park, representing a significant open space in the city's recreational infrastructure. The recreation building and gymnasium were completed in 1951, expanding the park's capacity to serve community programs and athletic activities for generations of residents.

A 2007 California environmental filing describes the park as encompassing 100 acres of park land with four acres devoted to three existing man-made lakes. The filing details the City's work including dredging, concrete repairs, and installation of protective liners to prevent water leakage in the lakes. The adjacent Alhambra Municipal Golf Course sits next to the park, making the combined area a major recreational hub serving both golfers and casual park visitors seeking outdoor recreation.

Park facilities and community heritage

The park contains a statue commemorating Ralph Kiner, a National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee who attended Fremont Elementary School and Alhambra High School. Kiner led Major League Baseball in home runs for six consecutive seasons. The statue honors the accomplishments of a notable figure in the community's sports history.

Flood policies generally take effect after a 30-day waiting period, with exceptions when a lender requires immediate coverage for mortgaged property in a high-risk zone.
